September arrives, and the cool autumn breeze starts to stroke the treetops while the autumn sun lays a sheet of golden silk over every roof tile. In weather like this, the heart slows down and fills with a strange tenderness for simple things.
In Vietnam, early September also means Independence Day on 2 September, the anniversary of the country’s declaration of independence in 1945.
Where do we find peace today?
That sacred word, PEACE, now tucks itself into ordinary everyday scenes. Out on the porch, a grandfather and his granddaughter fuss over smoothing the red flag with its yellow star, and the sound of a child’s crisp laughter brings a calm like no other.
Along a quiet slope, two silver-haired heads lean on each other as they walk slowly, unhurried, leaving all of life’s upheavals behind them.
Later in the afternoon, a veteran rides his old motorbike at ease along a peaceful coastal road, and a young couple ride together, arms wrapped around each other and chattering away, between majestic rice terraces…
Peace in the simplest things
Peace and happiness, it turns out, are nothing grand or far away. They are simply the days when we get to breathe air this still, this clear and this unhurried.
Autumn is ripening. Thơmore sends you our wishes for peace, and hopes you have a gentle Independence Day holiday, full of simple, warm joys around the family table.
